This Program is offered at all campuses.

 

Through the Nail Technology Program, students develop manicuring and pedicuring skills, nail art, wraps, nail tips, and sculptured nails.  Also in this program, an introduction to basic Aromatherapy and reflexology is included.  After graduating from the nail technician program, students are prepared to take the State Board of Cosmetology licensing examination which consists of a written exam and a practical exam.  This program is offered in both the Day and Evening Schedules.

The Nail Technology Program

is divided into three areas: 

Pre-Clinic Freshmen (100 Clock Hours),

Intermediate (150 Clock Hours), and

Clinic Seniors (370 Clock Hours).

 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Sanitation and Disinfection

This course teaches the student proper procedure to cleaning and sanitizing implements and work area.

 

Lab, Ethics, Charm and Retail

This segment teaches how to mix and store all chemicals used in the industry as well as the proper conduct expected in the salon.  It also covers correct procedures for working the front desk, including phone etiquette, appointment making and retail sales.

 

Nail Structure and Composition

In this segment, information is taught about the structure and function of the nail.

 

 

DISEASES AND DISORDERS

Completion of this course will enable the student to correct problems or refer the client to a physician for corrective action.

 

Manicure

This course teaches the basic manicure, hot oil manicure, spa manicure and paraffin baths.  It also includes massage of the hand and arm.

 

Pedicure

The art and science of caring for the feet are explained in this segment which includes massage, spa pedicure and paraffin baths.

 

Sculptured Nails

Also know as acrylic nails, this course teaches the techniques used to combine a liquid with a powder to form an artificial nail.  This procedure may also be used to strengthen, extend or repair nails.

 

Tips and Overlays

This segment teaches a technique of using a plastic tip with an acrylic overlay.  The tip is glued to the natural nail to add length, then blended and followed with an acrylic on top.

 

Fill-ins

This course will teach the student to apply acrylic to the new growth area of the nail.  The old acrylic is blended and primer and new acrylic is applied to the new growth area.

 

Removal and Repair

The class teaches the correct techniques for removing artificial applications and how to repair cracks or splits in the nail.

 

Drill (not included in the 600 hr version)

This class gives the student an introduction to the use of the drill used for filing and buffing artificial applications.

 

Nail Art

In this segment, the student will learn the various methods of decorating the nails, using paints, polish, rhinestones, foils and other tools and materials.

 

Paraffin Treatment

This segment teaches the student the benefits and procedures of applying hot paraffin as a therapeutic treatment.  It is used to improve dry skin and may offer relief to those clients suffering from arthritis.

 

Competition and Advanced Techniques

This class teaches how to prepare for student competition.  It also includes the introduction to aromatherapy which is using natural oils as a healing agent.  Reflexology is also introduced as a method of relieving stress and tension by applying pressure to certain areas of the feet and hands.
